The Same Path In a Different Direction
The moment it starts to get warm in Ohio I want to be outside. I love the sunshine, the fresh air, and the cool breeze that greets me in the morning.
Recently, I’ve taken my disciple making meetings outside with walks or hikes. Choosing to get out of the coffee shop and into nature has been such a gift. Recently, I was walking with one of the guys I talk about Jesus with, and before we even started the walk he said something that made me think -
“Let’s walk the path in the opposite direction.”
Having no real reason to object, I agreed and off we went.
It was fascinating. The path looked completely different. The views, the vegetation, the growth - at one point I almost missed the turn because it felt so different.
All of this new insight is because a friend suggested that we walk the same path in a different direction.
As leaders, I suspect we can be in the same place. Walking the same path day after day. The same routines, the same sermon prep, the same Sunday morning. I wonder what it would look like for us to walk that path a different way.
Jesus’ public ministry had so much movement He never really had time to settle. Every day seemed to be different, even to the point where He proclaims that the Son of Man has no place to lay His head (Matthew 8:20).
I wonder how you and I can emulate that? What would change if we walked our path in a different direction?
This week, take some time to do something different, let’s see what changes!
