The Hardest Thing to do as a Leader
We are literally days away from the Spirit & Truth Conference. It is one of the most exciting times of the year for the ministry, and in some ways, it feels like a family reunion. So many of our favorite people gathered in one place for multiple days to worship the Lord - WE LOVE IT!
As the lists get checked off and the final details get put into place, there is really only one thing left to do, and that is the hardest thing (in my opinion).
The only thing left to do is to surrender the outcome.
As a leader, I work so hard to control variables. I prepare back-ups, and I do all the work so that I can know what is going to happen. Yet, the very nature of proclaiming “Jesus is Lord” means that I’m not really in control.
So, the last step of every event that I serve is always this important step - surrendering the outcome. And I don’t know about you, but for me, it always feels so scary.
It feels scary because I’m afraid I’ll fail.
It feels scary because I’m afraid I’ll be judged.
It feels scary because I’m afraid that people won’t like me.
Those feelings are all very real, and yet you’ll notice a theme… there all about me. What I keep learning more and more is that when the event (or even the Sunday service) is about me, the angst will always be there.
However, if I am brave enough to surrender it to God - if I am brave enough just to give it to Him - the angst disappears. Because the truth is, once I give it to God I don’t have anything to worry about anymore.
As a leader, I don’t know what you are preparing for - maybe it’s just the next Sunday, maybe it’s Easter services, maybe it’s a big church vote. Whatever it is don’t forget the hardest, and most important step - surrender it to the Lord. It might just change everything.
