If you are anything like me, you are in full Easter mode planning. We are handing out invitation cards, and combing through the service order, and in a couple of weeks, we will be ready for one of the largest Christian holidays of the year.
Yet, we all know that Christ is the one who we must be dependent on when praying for a movement of God.
So, what is the balance?
How do we as church leaders balance the role we are called to play, and the role that Christ plays?
As I was reflecting on this in my own life I came to this conclusion: In any relationship there are roles. In my marriage, in parenting, and even in the sports teams that I coach - we have roles.
I think the same is true in the Church. We have a role to play as the spirit-led leader, and Christ has a role to play at the head of the Church.
So, how do we live in that tension?
Well, I think the trick is to stay in our role. Don’t do too much, do enough to promote excellence, and be willing to scrap it all if God tells you to do something different. For every hour of planning commit to an equal amount of time in prayer. And above all, remember this; you aren’t the savior of the church.
Do your best.
Surrender the outcomes.
Lean into your role.
And keep reminding yourself that Jesus has Easter covered.
