It's a Little Awkward, but It's Important
Recently, my home church has been doing a sermon series on what the Bible says about sex.
We are getting into all the thoughts around the subject, and we are doing our very best to keep it appropriate and Spirit-led.
Also, I have three kids - 12, 13, and 17. They all sit in church with us, and watching them listen to a sermon on the Biblical definition of sex feels so distant from real life. Yet, I know it’s not distant, it’s quite close. Closer than this Dad wants to imagine.
So, why do I bring all this up?
Well, in leadership there are easy wins and tough roads. While they aren’t mutually exclusive sometimes they feel miles apart. When my senior leader chose to go down this road I had to acknowledge it would be tough. Not just for my family, but for many families in the church. A lot of people feel awkward talking about this kind of stuff.
Yet, the world is talking about it. And if we don’t put our Christian voice in the conversation they won’t have anything to challenge the status quo.
I want to encourage and challenge you this morning - are you using your Christian voice in awkward conversations? Are you challenging the status quo of culture?
I know this is difficult, awkward, and everything in between, but this is the path of following Jesus.
Matthew 10:22 is a good reminder for us all:
You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.
