Don't Be Fooled
Don’t be fooled.
As leaders, we have a tendency to want to surround ourselves with people who believe and think the same way we do. We hire them because they act like us, or see the same picture we do.
The problem with that thinking is that when everyone agrees we lose the blessing of diversity or conflict. And in those things, we gain a broader picture of what the end goal can look like.
Instead, I want to encourage you to find people who see the world differently but believe in the same mission. You aren’t unified in the method, rather you are unified in the mission.
If you are brave enough to put an eclectic group of people in the room and wise enough to be the last one to comment - you might just get something that reaches people you’ve never encountered before.
Jesus modeled this well. The disciples were about as different as you could get. From tax collecter to fishermen, the origin stories disciples are as diverse as they come. Yet, they were all unified in the mission - following Jesus.
Unity in the mission provides space for disagreement on the method.
Disagreement on the method leads to diversity.
Don’t be fooled, do yourself a favor and surround yourself with people who are different than you.
