Do You Need to Create Some Fake Holidays?
Sunday, July 17th was national ice cream day. Growing up I don’t remember any such day, I don’t remember celebrating it, and I never remember making a big deal about it. But, yesterday, we went and got ice cream. I mean, obviously, we had to - it was national ice cream day.
I call these holidays “fake” because they were clearly made up by the industry that they serve, and it seems like there are more and more of them every year.
I was thinking about this as it pertains to the organizations we all serve, and it caused me to question: Do we need to create some fake holidays?
Or asked another way:
How are we doing at celebrating the organizations we lead?
So often in leadership, the objective is the focus of all we do, and in doing so we forget that people need to have fun. They need to be connected, they need a reason to stop what they are doing and celebrate.
Maybe it’s time to create, “national church administrator’s day” or “fifth Monday of the month play hookey from work day” - or whatever.
The next season of ministry is right around the corner, and with the remaining days of summer left I just want to encourage you - to stop and create a little fun.
